Fort of Chains

So this game sounded like something that I would enjoy. I'm usually pretty ecstatic about sim/management games. From Rimworld and Kenshi to Strive for Power and even old-school Sim City. I've enjoyed quite a few games in my time. Sadly, this one feels very lacking, almost like a cheap knockoff of Strive for Power. Done in the same engine as Degrees of Lewdity, which is still one of my favorite adult games, it felt like this game was absolutely going to rock my socks. But sadly, instead of a tale of triumph, today I share with you my disappointment. This is Fort of Chains.

To get started, the biggest issue I have is the lackluster feel of the game as a whole. Much of the text is very bland and there's no real storytelling. It's clear the game is hobbled together with many peoples works, but that makes it that much worse as stuff feels very generic. There's no real interaction with the meat of the game either. The feeling I got was definitely what was advertised though: It felt very beaurocratic. You are managing a group of slavers and slaves, building up a small fort into it's own city and as you would expect, much of the content is locked behind various structures. But that's really all there is to the game. Once you've experienced your first quest, it mainly just becomes a quick click race as you auto-fill quests, end your week, and deal with events as you watch your money rise up to spend on upgrades. It's almost as mindless as Cookie Clicker or a mobile game like AFK Arena without the convenience of portability.

But the biggest gripe is that while it claims to be an adult game, the sex in it is extremely generic and in most cases, feels almost like an afterthought. It's uneventful, there's no real description of the events, and it's over in a single page of text. Some of the worst ones were literally "So-and-so met up with a villager at a party and went to a barn where you could hear their cries of passion." Well, at least someone got to have fun because the sex I saw was over in a single paragraph. It's actually kinda sad because I came into this game with very high hopes. But I can't even recommend it as a quick jack-off game unless you know you can only last a couple seconds.

I wish I could honestly say I had fun with this one, but for the last 6 hours of playing it, I checked out. The dialogue is repetitive, even when it's written by different people. The gameplay is lacking, there's no real element to the gameplay that feels relative. At best, you are simply management in the worst degree, telling people to go out and do stuff and reaping the results, and having no say in anything aside from just picking the best people for the job. Every "week" just feels dull as you get into the habit of auto-filling quests, letting them play out and doing more quests to get more quests. Yeah, when you run out, you don't get them handed to you, you have to do a quest to get more quests. And they are all the same quests every time. I hate to say it, but this one gets an absolute pass from me, but if you are still interested in giving it a shot, you can find the game at: Fort of Chains
