Dandy Boy Adventures

This one is for those of us who played the older Flash games that used to crop up and has a solid story and well done art.  Today I'll be showcasing Dandy Boy Adventures.  So for those who knew the era, sites like Newgrounds and 2Adultflashgames used to be solid places to find your fix in terms of adult content in game form.  Most of it was essentially just "Click her here, increase orgasm meter" or "Run and avoid (or don't) monsters by jumping and ducking".  While a lot of these are still very much present in the scene, there were a few that focused on making us actually... well, WORK for the pictures.  I mean, it's not much of a reward if all you do is click a few buttons (or not).  Anyways, this would culminate into a series of tasks like an RPG, leading you to find items to solve puzzles to get your hands on some images.  And DBA does this formula very well.

I've seen a few attempts, often RPG Maker games with poor quality images, bad music, and the ilk.  DBA doesn't, however.  The art style is very solid, it's goofy, as is the gameplay and it doesn't take itself too seriously.  It knows what it is and it's not going to skirt the issue.  Using this to it's advantage, the game uses references and silly humor to tell a fun narrative of a pervy high school student (who is 19 but cannot legally buy alcohol... for reasons) but it has you doing quests as you seek the greatest of treasures.  Porn.  You'll find yourself in many situations, like getting involved with your friends mom after cleaning her pipes or finding a demon in a graveyard on Halloween.  The situations will be out there, but trust me and you'll see it's worth the investment.

The main pull of this game is definitely it's sense of humor and while not "innovative", the gameplay is still solid and familiar.  The game brings in platforming elements from the old 2.5D platformers (but nothing so intense it's impossible), has lots of quests to track down and complete, some may require a second (or even 3rd) playthrough as I believe some may actually have time limits.  But also the game has relationships, shops, and jobs to earn money for said shops.  Depending on your preferred skill type, delivering papers if you are good at quick snap reflexes (it's Paperboy) and working in the warehouse will actually test your puzzle solving skills.  There are also other ways of obtaining money through trash cans, secrets, etc. but there's also hidden shops that sell collectable cards and character sprites which you can access through your in-game computer at home.  If you love collecting stuff like in Banjo Kazooie or looking for hidden secrets, this game is definitely for you.

So I figured I'd try something a little different with this one and let the game kind of speak for itself.  These are pics from a quest called "Mary Jane" which is an early one to get, but the main gist of it is that you and your friend definitely did not smoke his mothers stash of weed.  And thus you are off to search for more to replace it before she can figure out that it was definitely not you.  This quest has you finding a dealer who then has you steal a package from a warehouse, and then taking the weed he gives you back to your friends mother who rewards you in a very interesting way.  Ultimately, you'll be in for a treat.

Now for the best part, the rewards.  This game has plenty of hidden secrets and various quests, all with their own unique artwork to get your hands on.  The art style is a bit cartoonish, but it's very well drawn, as are the animations in the animated scenes.  While the characters are a bit one dimensional, it's done in the same way they would be in a spoof movie.  The writing is over-exaggerated, silly, and sometimes predictable but in a "wouldn't have it any other way" kind of way.  So if you want a good chuckle while working your way up to some excellent mastu... I mean, "wholesome" material, then this is certainly a must-play.  Oh, and I suppose I won't leave you hanging, after all... you've been a good reader after all, right?

The game is still being worked on, and is currently in version 0.5.7 as the writing of this review, but is already so chock full of content, you'll definitely have fun with it for a while.  I played on mobile, so I will have one warning for those seeking to follow in my footsteps:  use a controller.  The platforming is kind of difficult in places and on a mobile device with a touch screen, it makes them that much more challenging.  I used a PS4 controller with the game, but I noticed it showed the icons for an Xbox controller, so I assume it was designed with those in mind instead.  That said, the PS4 controller functioned just fine.  I haven't tried the PC version, but I assume keyboard works just fine for someone acclimated to it.

So feel free to check the game out, you can download the latest versions over at Dandy Boy Itch.io
